Guest Speaker:   This week’s guest speaker was Matt Donahue of United Way of Eastern Maine (UWEM) . He is the Chief Impact Officer and is responsible for leading, overseeing and innovating the organization’s community impact and investment initiatives.

Matt provided a great power point presentation about the history of the organization and it’s partnerships for the community.

UWEM’s focus is to make a difference in education, income and health resources in our community. The ultimate goal is improving the lives of children, families and seniors in Eastern Maine.

For more than 80 years, UWEM has worked in Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Waldo, and Washington counties to improve the lives of people in Eastern Maine by mobilizing the caring power of people and communities.  Today, United Way of Eastern Maine is the largest private funder of education, income, and health services in the five-county area.

Every 5 years, UWEM conducts a community mapping process to identify needs, root causes, prioritize needs and develop a plan to address the prioritized needs.

This process allows UWEM to identify the areas in which we have a unique position to leverage our relationships and community resources to create solutions through collective impact.

They encourage donations and are always looking for volunteers!

Please visit volunteerme.unitedwayem.org/aem if you are someone who would like to volunteer.
