Guest Speaker:  This week’s guest speaker was Rotarian Peter Farragher of Downeast Family YMCA.

Peter talked about the challenges of reopening the Downeast Family YMCA during COVID-19. He explained how communication is very important within the community, the staff, and the families they provide services to. There were a lot of concerns during the shutdown. The unknown is scary.

The fitness center opened back up along with the Summer Camp in early June.  Summer camp is only open to Maine Residents this year. All staff are working hard to keep everyone safe during this difficult time.

Peter is hoping for more growth in the fall. There has been a 40-50% drop since COVID-19 in March. They are waiting to see what the local schools will decide as that will make an impact on after school care and daycare.

The New Blue Hill Fitness Center is scheduled to open in October. The equipment has been ordered and tours are scheduled to be given in September.

There is a possibility of youth sports to be delayed due to COVID-19. Everyone is working to make sure things move along and following the guidelines to be safe.

Respectfully submitted by Ashley Johnson
