Rotary Business:
Carl discussed auction activities and the visit to the Big Cats event site with
discussion of tables and floor plans. Each Rotarian will get two tickets to sell, and
other sales will be at the door.
Scott reminded us of the Indian Point Park cleanup on May 7 and passed the
sign-up sheet around.
Lincoln discussed the District Conference being held at Sugarloaf on May 20-22
and encouraged all Rotarians to attend. Activities include plenary meetings
Saturday morning, zip lines, wine tasting, musical entertainment Friday evening,
a buffet dinner Saturday, and Deb Walters will speak on her kayak trip to Latin
America.
Carl spoke of applying for a grant for our 2017 wheelchair project to Honduras.
Dave said Honduras has 20 Rotary clubs and a population of 8 million. There are
3 additional clubs in Maine that are interested in participating in the 2017 mission
to Honduras.
Charlene reported that Foundation giving this year is up to $113 per capita, and
our goal was $100 per capita.

Program: Todd Wagstaff and Nikki Cutchens were our guests and spoke about
Ellsworth Challenger Little League, which is dedicated to providing an opportunity
for children with special needs and/or physical disabilities in Washington,
Hancock and Penobscot counties to learn the sport of baseball. This local and
free program was begun in 2015, and 19 children participated. Every
participating child gets a “buddy” who stays with him/her for the duration of the
August-September program, but the teams are mixed up each week. Buddies are
8 years of age to adults, and school students have been very eager to sign up to
be a buddy. Currently there are three Challenger Little League programs in
Maine, and though the program is free, travel expenses for parents are difficult.
The Challenger program is a 501c3 charitable organization and will be hosting a
fundraiser at Bag Cats Event Center on Trenton Road, Ellsworth, on May 21st.
Charge is $30/person and $50/couple. The funds raised will go towards team
costs and free equipment and uniforms for all players.
Donations may be mailed to Nikki Cutchens at Downeast Horizons, 77 Union
Street, Ellsworth.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:15 pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Marian Wells
