Program:  Dr. Peter Garrett, PhD from Johns Hopkins in Environmental Science, was introduced as our guest speaker. He is a past president of RC of Waterville, has taught at UMaine and now works for Citizens Climate Lobby.
He stated that the earth has been experiencing climate change since the beginning of humans on earth.
Some indications of climate change are:
  • The migration to the north of hardiness zones
  • More ticks being found further north
  •  Earlier ice out
  • Moose are disappearing and moving north
  •  National glaciers in the U.S. has decreased from 150 to only 27
  • Warming of the Gulf of Maine
Dr. Garrett believes climate change comes with a time limit and that CO2 emissions need to peak by 2022 and decrease to 3% by 2050. When all CO2 emissions are stopped, it will take the earth 1,000 years to recover.  Dr,.Garret was presented a blue Rotary mug by President Ashley with her thanks, and the meeting was adjourned at 7:25pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Marian Wells
