Thank You Letter from LifeFlight of Maine: Charlene Churchill shared a Thank You Letter from LifeFlight of Maine thanking our club for our donation to support them in purchasing night vision goggles. They are greatly appreciative as nearly half of all LifeFlight’s calls occur after dark. With night enhanced vision (NVG), pilots and crew members can see landing zone obstacles such as wires, towers, trees and rocks while flying in the dark. This improves safety and protects the aircraft’s precious cargo.

Program/Speaker: This week our guest speaker was Dr. David Edsall, MD. He spoke to the club about “Errors in Medicine.”  More then 200,00 people die from preventable medical errors and up to 20 times more suffer from errors but don’t die from them. Here are a few common medical errors: 1. Medication Errors, 2. Too many blood transfusions, 3. Too much oxygen for Premature Babies, 4. Healthcare Associated Infections, 5. Infections from Central Lines.

David did state these errors happen because we are human.  Humans make mistakes but we work hard to try to prevent them from happening again.

David is an anesthesiologist in Bangor, Maine and is affiliated with Inland Hospital and has been in practice for more than 20 years. He is one of five doctors at Inland Hospital who specialize in Anesthesiology.

David has published more than 12 articles on quality of anesthesia and has been a guest speaker in five foreign countries and more than 15 states!
