Cheryl announced that the International Committee is looking for recommendations regarding people who may want to be a host family to a student as part of the Rotary Exchange Program.  Our club needs to advise the district if we want to participate by the end of February.  Host families can be people outside of Rotary and they do not need to have school age children or a spouse to qualify to host.  If you are interested or have a recommendation for a host family, please let Cheryl know.

Ashley announced that our March service program is volunteering on Monday’s at Everybody Eats! A schedule for March shift sign up was circulated.

Ashley shared information from The Wall Street Journal regarding coverage on the advancement of the polio vaccination program.  The article interviewed Bill and Melinda Gates at the World Economic Summit.  The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a Rotary Partner working toward polio full eradication.  If no new cases are discovered in Afghanistan or Pakistan in 2016, the disease will be pronounced eradicated in 2019. Please keep contributing to the blue polio cups at each meeting as this is helping to make a difference.

David circulated the snow day contest sign up.  As a reminder, proceeds will go to the THAW heating fund program.

Member Induction:
President Ashley Johnson, Membership Chair Nancy Mayo and members of the membership committee were pleased to induct Pam Cushing and Clyde Cushing into Rotary as full members.  The club also welcomed Sue Ellen Speed as our first Associate Member.  The Associate Member Program was introduced to the membership fourth quarter 2015 by Ashley as a way to include individuals in the rights and opportunities of Rotary without requiring a full membership commitment.  Instead, Associate Members have two years to decide on full membership and its requirements. The membership enthusiastically welcomed these three leaders to our club.  Welcome Pam, Clyde and Sue Ellen!

Program:

In lieu of a speaker, Ashley facilitated the group through an exercise taught at the Rotary President’s training class.  Called “Rotary Compass Points,” it is an exercise in determining your leadership style among four classifications and then discussing the benefits and cautions around those styles when working with other personality styles on group projects.  Members enjoyed the exercise and Ashley finished off the activity and discussion by offering additional door prizes.

The meeting concluded at 7:20 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

Tracy Shaffer
