Opening Ceremonies: President Carl Lusby called the meeting to order

Guests: Danny Ray plus the 3 Students of the Month from HCTC with instructors, family members and speaker Tim Archambeault.

Club Anniversaries: Jack Frost and Dana Reiter
 
Rotary Minute: Jo Cooper gave a mini Rotary Minute and described the various Rotary themes for the past three years.
 
Door Prizes: Julie Bouchard, PP Ashley Johnson and Bruce Fischer won door prizes.
 
50/50: Fred Beyer donated his $17 back to Happy Dollars. Fred was happy that his brothers has a new job as a moderator in Mass. and for his wife's recent retirement.
 
Happy Dollars Highlights: Marshall Smith and Terri Stephens were happy for their recent trip to Kansas, Others that were happy included Sec. Charlene, Dan Hurley, Jane Langley, Julie Bouchard, Past President Ashley Johnson and President Carl Lusby for the 10 years our club has sponsored and recognized various vocations with HCTC.
 
Rotary Business: Clyde Cushing informed us of the Indian Point Clean Up on May 20th at 9:00am
 
President Elect Scott Kimball briefed us on the Annual Auction and that ONLY 123 items have been turned into the "Y" to date. WE NEED EVERYONE TO FINISH THEIR CALL LIST AND TO TURN IN ITEMS TO THE "Y." There was an audience "DRUM ROLL" for the weekly winning team with the most points for the auction. Mike Fischer won a bottle of wine from the team drawing. Auction Posters and Tickets were given out to all club members.
 
Program/Speaker: HCTC Student of the Month Program organized and the program MC was by Tracy Shaffer. Each student was honored by the club with a certificate, $25 in Chamber Bucks and the "coveted" Rotary/HCTC T-shirt.
 
Culinary Arts student is Emily Homer with comments by Culinary arts Instructor Bill Baker. Bill said Emily is "cooking up a storm”, is inventive, and takes great pride in her work while striving for "Excellence Every Day." Emily is OSHA certified and was awarded with a Silver Medal for her Wedding Cake at the State of Maine competition.
Speaker Rotarian Jane Langley, owner of the Union River Lobster Pot, told us of her 43 years in the restaurant business while having never cooked a meal. Jane gave us lessons of life and work that have held her in good stead.
 
Health Occupations student is Marley Chamberlain with comments by Instructor Michelle Cote. Michelle told us that Marley has grown as a CNA student, has confidence and is professional all the time. Her studies are exceptional, are a “Team Player” and are very compassionate.  In addition she volunteers at Birch Bay and has been accepted at USM for the Nursing BA program.
 
Speaker Rob Hemenway, Executive Director of Westgate Manor, told us that CNAs are the most important person in Rehabilitation and Nursing home facilities. The CNA job is tough, while they need to be gentle and professional for the patients. CNAs are not doing this job to be rich but for taking care of people. As an already trained CNA makes for a better nurse.
 
Multimedia Technologies student is Emily McPhail with comments by Instructor Ben Speed. Ben told us that Emily is creative, bright and a leader. Her skills have earned her a 5th place at the state completion as a junior. She is completing collage level courses for EMMC and USM. Emily is also part of EHS Show Choir, Prom Committee, and Student Council and teaches Sunday school.
 
Speaker Tim Archambeault, Director of Ellsworth American's Reach Agency, told us that 'hands on training' is of great value to the learning process. Tim told us of his path to being involved in multimedia. He also said that technical skills need to be diverse and that these are "skills for life."
Rotarian Tracy Shaffer concluded the program by helping President Carl Lusby present “Speaker Coffee Mugs" to Jane, Rob and Tim. "Partnership Mugs" were presented to Instructors Bill, Michelle, and Ben and also to Jane Langley and PE Scott Kimball.
 
The evening concluded with a reminder to complete our Annual Auction soliciting and to sign up for the Honors Banquet.
Carl then rang the club bell that closed our meeting.
