Rotary Business:
Carl reminded Rotarians that the Rotary Auction would be held on May 13. The auction will be held at the Big Cat’s Event Center in Trenton. Rotarians should now have their business contact list and information to contact area businesses for donations.  Donations are due April 30.  Carl held a recognition moment and gave a bottle of wine to the Rotarian furthest along in finishing their Rotary contacts.  This will be done every week until the auction and tonight’s winner was Tony.  Congratulations Tony!  We collectively have 50+ items in and need over 200 to drive the historic proceeds we expect.

Ashley announced that meetings would start regularly at Betty’s Hilltop on May 24.  If you are interested in helping her inventory meeting materials and display items we use weekly, please let her know

Lincoln gave an update from the nominating committee.  A need has occurred to nominate a new upcoming President Elect given that Dom has work related schedule conflicts that will make serving in that capacity difficult.  The club voted to move Scott Kimball up to President Elect for the 2016 -2017 year and to elect Charlene Churchill as Vice President for the same timeframe.

Carl reminded the club that the final HCTC academic recognition program of the year will be held at HCTC next week.  Members are encouraged to come and support the award winners and enjoy a meal prepared by the culinary arts students. He also noted that planning for the scholarship awards night is progressing which will recognize the top 50 seniors in academic standing from Ellsworth City Schools.

In other business, Scott reminded people of the Indian Point Clean Up Project which will be on May 7 from 9 AM – Noon.  Charlene also asked for volunteers on May 14th for the Bike Safety Rodeo to be held at Ellsworth City Schools. The club has purchased some helmets for the children and Rotarians will help pass those out as well as perform other light duties as needed.

Announcements shared included the need in Ecuador for relief funds given the earthquakes experienced recently.  District Gov. Al Feather has asked for Rotarians to support this cause given that the people and area are associated with community well projects supported by the district and other Rotarians.  An on the spot pass-the-hat cash donation collection was started by Lincoln and information regarding additional donations can be reviewed by looking at the email sent by Al to all district Rotarians.

Heidi announced that all Rotarians are welcome to attend a Holocaust reflection program to be held on 4/29 in the Ellsworth High School Auditorium.  Those wishing to hear a Holocaust
survivor speak should be there by 8:30 AM.

Program:
Chuck Major of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), Katahdin Area Council overviewed the local scouting programs offered at Camp Roosevelt which is celebrating its 95th year of operation this year. He shared brochure materials and walked the club through a slide presentation
highlighting many of the activities and events in which campers engage. Over 180 packs and troops visit the camp annually and currently there are 20 troops in Hancock County.  It was underscored that volunteering for BSA is open to men and women and good leaders are always needed to help with our youth.  The camp program includes several resident programs that allow scouts to work on merit badges relative to any level of scouting.  There are also opportunities for adults, girls and siblings to engage at the camp.  During the off season, Camp Roosevelt hosts events in their dining and meeting lodge.

Our club was thanked for their support of the council’s camping program and Ashley presented
Chuck with a Rotary Speaker’s Mug.

The meeting adjourned at 7:15 PM.
